      Key Point: Your data stays local. We do not collect, store, or transmit your resume, cover letters, job descriptions, or any personal career data to our servers.
    

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data Stored Locally (On Your Device)

The following data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API and never leaves your device:

User Settings: Your AI provider preference, API key (encrypted), and output preferences
Resume/Profile: Your resume text and professional profile (for generating cover letters)
Application History: Previously generated cover letters and responses (stored for your reference)
Job Tracking: Jobs you've applied to (if using tracking feature)
License Information: Your license key and validation status
Usage Counters: Daily generation count (for free tier limits)

2.2 Data Sent to Third-Party AI Providers

When you generate a cover letter or optimize your resume, the following data is sent directly to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic):

Job description text from the job posting
Your resume/profile information
Tone and style preferences

Important: This data is sent directly from your browser to the AI provider using your own API key. It does not pass through our servers.

2.3 Data Sent to Startvest Servers

The only data sent to our servers is:

License Validation: Your license key (sent to verify validity and retrieve tier limits)

We do NOT collect or receive: your resume, cover letters, job descriptions, or AI provider API keys.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we receive for:

License Validation: Verifying your license key is valid and active
Tier Enforcement: Determining which features you have access to based on your license tier
Customer Support: Helping you if you contact us with issues

4. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

activeTab: Grants temporary access to read job posting content when you click the extension.
storage: To save your settings, resume, and application history locally.
contextMenus: To add right-click options for extracting job descriptions.

4.1 Supported Job Sites

The extension is optimized for:

LinkedIn Jobs
Indeed
Glassdoor
Company career pages
Any webpage with job descriptions

4.2 What We Do NOT Access

Your job site accounts: We cannot access your LinkedIn, Indeed, or other job site accounts.
Application submissions: We don't submit applications on your behalf.
Browsing history: We cannot see what sites you visit.

5. Data Security

All data stored locally uses Chrome's secure storage API
API communications use HTTPS encryption
Your AI provider API key is stored locally and never transmitted to our servers
Your resume and personal info never leave your device (except to AI provider)

6. Data Retention

Local Data: Stored until you clear browser data or uninstall the extension
License Records: We retain license purchase records for accounting and support purposes

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: View all data stored locally by the extension
Delete: Clear all local data including your resume by uninstalling or using settings
Export: Export your application history
Deactivate: Deactivate your license at any time

8. Third-Party Services

The extension integrates with:

OpenAI/Anthropic: For AI-powered content generation (using your API key)
Stripe: For payment processing (we don't store payment details)
